Doorstep issues... Round-a-bout?

Getting A-round-to-it!

Residents living adjacent to Mill Hill and the Great North Road together with parents of pupils attending Crosshall School have been complaining to Bob and Ken about concerns over the safety of their children en-route to school...

Surveying the site of the new footpath...
One parent outlined the problem: "Crossing the road at peak times, particularly when taking my children to and collecting from school is a nightmare! There is a great deal of traffic coming from every direction and there is no official path on one side of Duloe Road, children can't see around the corner and the northbound vehicles approaching the junction. There have been several near misses in the last year owing to unclear sight lines and drivers failing to indicate."

Bob explains: "The difficulty is that residents attempting to cross Duloe Road have to cross on what is in effect a blind corner. Pedestrians cannot be seen by vehicles and vehicles cannot be clearly seen by pedestrians. Improvements are needed to prevent an accident at this dangerous site."

"There have been proposals in line to remedy this problem for far too long. After receiving the residents concerns I have discovered that it's been six or seven years since this matter was raised with at least one town Councillor, yet nothing has been done, that is simply unacceptable! The previous town council vetoed the original proposal owing to the costs involved, but as far as I am concerned its high time the issue was sorted out - things have not gotten any better for the waiting!"

Plans exist to extend the pavement footpath along the north side of Duloe Road and relocate the existing crossing patrol some 20 metres from its current location.

"This would be a good used of a relatively small outlay to greatly improve safety for all pedestrian users here." Ken commented.
